Designed for a young client working in textile manufacturing with international clientele, this project was our attempt at easing out a very hostile manufacturing environment of textile industry. The factory typology was adopted to create spaces and atmosphere which is more humane and dignified for the workers and owners both.

The loading and unloading docks were articulated as double height atrium that also doubles up as parking for owners’ luxury cars. This creates a sense of arrival at the same time solving the issue of logistics during the rains. Likewise, the ‘edge’ towards the greens and the adjoining creek was devoted to the design offices and the ‘mind’ of the enterprise with collage of openings that respond to the inside and outside alike. Deep seated floor areas were lit up by penetrating courts on both sides to be able to bring natural light on the shop floor.

The spaces ascend in priority with increasing floors and terminate into a terrace lounge for clients to unwind at the end of the day or entertain their guests after a factory visits. The industrial areas being away from the city the last two private floors almost substitute private areas of a house for the clients to even host social gatherings of his friends or host formal meetings.

One building takes care of the manufacturing, logistics, back office and clients facing activity all with equal ease and articulation. Constructed with the standard construction cost of an industrial unit using the basic most material. In a city that boasts of being the largest textile manufacturing hub and where a whole new generation is taking over the business, we hope to change the grammar of how industrial units are being built and hope to make them more humane and gentle.
